Visit The Finch Files Website for Advanced Topics in Breeding and Aviculture

As I progressed with finches, I eventually decided to take up the challenges of breeding finches (particularly waxbills) in the basement bird room that my husband built for me. I have started a second website dedicated to more advanced topics in breeding and aviculture: The Finch Files. While this site in under construction and progress is slow, it does have some health information, as well as some photos of the birds I have bred in the Breeding section, and a description of the bird room in the Bird Room section. Please feel free to browse what is there. More will be coming as I learn more and as I have the time to put my findings up on the web. Some of the independent juveniles will be moved to the living room aviary featured on this site with the hopes that they will get a lot of exercise and that they will learn to accept a more diverse diet. So, from time to time, you may catch a peak of them in the AviCam. Enjoy!

New Finch AviaryThis site is dedicated to the construction and maintenance of our indoor canary/finch aviary. Our goal is to share experiences and ideas with others interested in keeping finches, particularly in an indoor aviary setting. In addition to information exchange, we’ve tried to enrich your experience with multimedia. We offer a live AviCam – a digital window into our aviary – as well as collections of photographs, audio clips, and (eventually) video files for your perusal. (Check out About This Site for our statement of purpose.)

We are not avian experts. We keep finches as a hobby, and we learn new things all the time. We found that it is much easier to find quality care information on more traditional pets such as dogs and cats, than it is to find information about finches. Even the pet bird community focuses on species such as parrots, parakeets, and cockatiels. We found that the best information out there came from the experience of others. In this respect, the Internet community has been an invaluable source of information. This website is our opportunity to give something back.

Because we know there are many people with more experience, new ideas, and differing opinions, we encourage you to contact us with your own ideas. We are very open to providing a different perspective in an effort to make our site as helpful, informative, and well-rounded as possible and we are always looking for new ideas to improve the quality of living of our birds.

Much of this site relates to keeping finches in a non-breeding setup. We are working on getting a bird room completed and we will some day share are breeding experiences as well.

Please enjoy your visit. We hope you share your thoughts and ideas, sign our Guestbook, and come back again!

You are the visitor to this site.
